I found Jim through very thorough research. It became obvious in the first 6 months of searching that there are not many people today
who are qualified, experienced and still teaching, and can teach the techniques safely and in a cordial manner. I almost gave up, but I
found Jim Tibbs in Southern Oregon. He was very easy to talk to and appeared to be very knowledgeable. I found Jim to be right to
the point with training. It’s hands-on the first hour – learning about the glider and the sport, setting up and handling the glider and
learning about myself as a pilot. It wasn’t without challenges while progressing from handling and running with the glider to the first
few flights off the training hill, but it felt awesome because I was confident, elated and solid in what I’d learned. Jim also guided me
through the manual and reviewed the principal elements of flight prior to each lesson. We are now entering our Hang 2 stage of
training, and I feel very confident in the experience and the wisdom about what’s to come. I would highly recommend Jim as an
instructor, who tunes into his students, is patient and doesn’t rush, is flexible and doesn’t push for a“package
deal”.

When I decided that I wanted to learn how to fly I went to Ashland and met Jim Tibbs. After watching another student for about an
hour, I knew that I had to do this. I started lessons and it was awesome! Jim made the experience so much fun, and I learned so much
about wind, weather, hang gliders and much more. He always made sure that I didn't push to get ahead of myself, but that I safely
and comfortably kept moving forward and had my skills solid before introducing something new. That was a few years ago and Jim
still mentors me and I always fly with him whenever I can. He helped me to find the right gear for me, and since I went with used
gear, he made sure that it fit me right and was safe. Safety is always at the top of his list and through my lessons I always felt safe
and confident. If you want to fly and have a great time learning and be a confident, skilled pilot, you need to meet Jim. It was a
